★★★★☆ Assembly is one of those books you start reading and, after just a few pages, you can already sense its beauty - so you put it away again. You don't want to waste it on the wrong moment. So you wait until you can give it the time and attention it deserves.
If you already carry some anger about injustice, colonialism or a quiet resentment toward the rich and the comfortable world they've built for themselves, this book will bring it right back to the surface. Brown doesn't need to shout. Watching the narrator move through boardrooms and manicured country gardens, smiling at people whose wealth rests on centuries of exploitation, is enough to make your blood simmer.
Still what stays with me most is the elegance. The book is barely more than a hundred pages, written in spare, fragmented passages that sometimes read more like poetry than prose.
